KUALA LUMPUR: Four men who were charged with supporting and possessing items related to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terror group pleaded not guilty to the offences at the High Court here today.

The four; Seremban Jaya assemblyman P. Gunasekaran, 60, DAP member V Suresh Kumar, 43, trader B. Subramaniam, 57, and scrap metal dealer A. Kalaimughilan, 28, entered their plea in two separate courts.

They were charged with pledging support to LTTE by using their respective Facebook accounts named ‘DAP Guna Palainisamy’, ‘US SUBRA SUBRAMANIAM, ‘RocketSuresh DAP’ and ‘Kalai Mugilan’.

The offences were allegedly committed at the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division (E8) between Oct 7 and Oct 11.

Kalaimughilan is facing three more charges of distributing LTTE-related items, supporting LTTE by attending the group’s related event and pledging his support to the group via YouTube.

He was alleged to have committed the offences for distributing items and supporting the group by attending an event at Dewan Tan Sri Soma, Wisma Tun Sambanthan, Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, Kampung Attap, here, between 8pm and 11.30pm on March 17, 2014.

The offences, under Section 130J (1)(b) of the Penal Code, carry a maximum seven years’ imprisonment or fine, upon conviction.

For supporting LTTE via Youtube, he allegedly committed the offence at the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division (E8), here, at about 10am on June 2, 2014.

The offence under Section 130J (1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a life imprisonment or a maximum 30 years or fine and forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used for the offence, if convicted.

Gunasekaran’s case will be up for mention on Jan 20, next year, before judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin, while Suresh Kumar, Subramaniam's case will be up on Jan 15 and and Kalaimughilan’s on Jan 3, next year, before judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan.
