KEPALA BATAS: Police are looking for the husband of a 29-year-old Myanmar national who was found dead with a knife stuck to her neck at a condominium unit in Butterworth here yesterday.

North Seberang Perai police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the suspect, a Myanmar national identified as Thura Aung Than, 29, was being sought to assist in the investigation.

"He has gone missing after the incident but we believe he is still in the country," he said.

Noorzainy said the victim's husband would be able to shed light into the case as he was believed to be the last person to see Yoon Hati Htike's alive.

“The CCTV footage we got showed the victim entering the condominium unit at 11pm on Dec 14 (Saturday). The husband was seen leaving the unit at 3pm on Dec 15.

“The husband's employer told us they last met on Friday about 10pm," he said.

Noorzainy added that checks showed the couple had entered the country legally in 2013 and was married in Myanmar four years ago.

“Both of them were United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) cardholders and the victim was an engineering graduate from a university in Myanmar,” he said.

He added that the victim was working as a translator at a clinic.

Noorzainy said police were looking at jealousy as possible motive in the murder.

It was reported yesterday that Yoon was found dead in the main room of the unit by her landlord who went to check on her after police received a report that she had not turned up for work.
