BUKIT MERTAJAM: A policeman was stabbed on his abdomen and left arm with a screwdriver by a man at the Malaysia-Kuwait Light Industry Park in Permatang Tinggi Bukit Tengah here last night.

Following the 7.30pm incident, Central Seberang Perai police headquarters’ patrol officer Corporal Mohd Azmi Satiman, 42, had to receive three stitches and was given two-day sick leave.

Police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said during the incident, Mohd Azmi was patrolling the area with another officer and they saw the man behaving in a suspicious manner.

“The man was sitting on his motorcycle when the officers approached him. Suddenly, the man launched at the officers with a screw driver, stabbing one of them in the abdomen and left arm,” he said.

Nik Ros Azhan said the 38-year-old jobless suspect has been arrested and checks found he has previous records involving drugs.
