KANGAR: A total of four suspects, including the members of Perlis PAS’ Jabatan Amal, in the arson case involving Perlis Mufti official vehicle have been released on police bail.

All of the suspects, including the main suspect identified as Zaini, had been remanded for four days since Tuesday to facilitate investigation.

Perlis police chief Datuk Noor Mushar Mohd said the police would not rule out the possibility of charging the suspects, aged between 30 and 38, if there was enough evidence to indicate their involvement.

“So far, we have released four suspects, including Zaini, while another one has been charged in court this morning.

“If we have enough evidence, we won’t rule out the possibility to bring the four of them to court (for prosecution),” he said when contacted today.

The media have reported that Zaini, the main suspect in the arson case involving the official vehicle of Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, and three others were arrested by the police last Monday.

Detailing further on another suspect known as Mie Tomoi who’s still at large, Noor Mushar said the police are still hunting for him.

“We will inform from time to time if we have any leads on Mie Tomoi,” he said.

On March 22, Mohd Asri’s official car was burnt by two men who were detected in a closed circuit television (CCTV) recording in his neighbour’s house in Jalan Persiaran Wawasan here.

In the incident at 5.45am, a black Honda Accord car was burnt in the engine and left front tyre while the front and back windscreens were smashed.
