SEPANG: Police have confirmed that there was no third party involvement in a house fire that killed two civil servants at Taman Desa Vista, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, on Jan 28.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Ali said physical evidence collected by the forensic team did not show any indication that a third party was involved.

“The forensic evidence does not point to such conclusion so far. But we cannot dismiss it for now until we have received the chemist analysis.

"So far there is no indicator pointing to the involvement of a third party in the case as there was no sign of any break-in, for instance.

"There were only two victims involved...But we are still waiting for the chemist report,” he told reporters today.

On Jan 28, it was reported that the two civil servants, Wan Mohd Baharul Nizam Wan Bakar, 35, and Norwahidah Abdul Hamid, 26, both attached to Putrajaya National Registration Department, were killed in the fire.

On another matter, Aziz said the crime index rate recorded by the Sepang police district headquarters had so far shown a downward trend of 10.4 per cent compared to the whole of last year.

He said that serious crimes had declined by 8.33 per cent while property crime dropped by 11.1 per cent.

“Night road blocks and frequent patroling during day time helped to lower the crime rate,” he said, adding that from January last year until February this year there were 93 commercial crime cases recorded in Sepang involving losses of about RM2.3 million.
