GEORGE TOWN: A finance and administration unit head from a state government agency was remanded for six days until next Monday to assist in investigations into making false claims of over RM9,000.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Muhammad Azam Md Eusoff at the magistrate’s court here today.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 for making false claims.

The 39-year-old man was alleged to have made three claims for printing works and expenses involving office furniture.

However, none of the works and furniture were supplied.

He is liable, upon conviction, to be jailed up to 20 years or fined not less then five times of the claim made or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

He was detained yesterday at the Seberang Prai MACC branch at 2pm when giving his statement pertaining to the case.
