GEORGE TOWN: The director of a Penang-based government agency was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here, today.

According to sources, the 58-year-old man was detained at MACC’s office here at 8.10am.

He was arrested for allegedly misusing his position to award projects to a company owned by his son.

“The director was found to have suggested the company for the development of a class system for Tabika Perpaduan Pulau Pinang to the Quotation Evaluation Committee EDU KIDS Service System at a cost of RM45,472.

"His son, 27, was arrested at 10.30am in Perak yesterday and is expected to be remanded today," the source said when contacted.

The director, donning the MACC's orange lockup uniform, was taken to the Magistrate's Court at 2.45pm to be remanded.

He emerged from the courthouse some 20 minutes later, accompanied by several MACC officers.

Magistrate Rosnee Mohd Radzuan granted a six-day remand order against the director to facilitate investigations into the case.
