IPOH: State opposition chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad and five Barisan Nasional assemblymen from Umno had their statements recorded by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigators today.

Their statements were recorded over claims of bribery involved in an alleged attempt to depose Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu by certain members of his executive council.

The five assemblymen were Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya (Rungkup), Datuk Sham Mat Sahat (Alor Pongsu), Khairul Shahril Mohamed (Bota), Maslin Sham Razman (Bukit Chandan) and Dr Jurij Jalaluddin (Lubuk Merbau).

All were interviewed separately, beginning with Sham at 12.30pm, followed by Shahrul Zaman at 2pm.

Maslin Sham had his statement recorded at 2.30pm, then Khairul Shahril and Saarani an hour later. Jurij arrived at 5pm to have his statement recorded.

State MACC director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed that all six had their statements recorded.

The six were interviewed over claims they were offered money to help certain exco members bring down their own MB.

Saarani had claimed that five Umno assemblymen were approached to support a motion of no confidence against Faizal at the state legislative assembly sitting.

Met after his turn with MACC investigators, Khairul Shahril said he received a phone call from an officer about noon.

He said MACC officers took 30 minutes to record his statement.

“Yes, I was one of those who were approached by our ‘friends’ (to depose the MB). People approach us, we just ‘layan’. We can work together with anyone in any situation,” he said.

Maslin Sham also said it took about 30 minutes for investigators to record his statement.

Though he refused to confirm whether he was one of the five assemblymen approached by the exco members, he said he had brought along several documents, including a statutory declaration he had made.
