KULIM: A 32-year-old man was arrested after threatening his father after the duo got involved in a fight at their home in Taman Kenari yesterday.

Kulim district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Nasir Jaafar said in the 5.30am incident, the suspect, who was believed to be a drug addict attempted to enter the house through the window when he was chided by his younger sister who caught him in the act.

“The man became upset and got involved in a heated argument with his father who arrived soon after.

“The suspect then threw stones at the glass window panels. One of the family members got injured from the broken pieces of glass in the process,” he said when contacted today.

Ahmad Nasir said the suspect threatened to hit his sister in the head and that the father would end up dead if the latter stepped out of the house.

The fight came to a head when the man, who got onto his motorcycle attempted to run his father over, who had stepped outside.

His elder brother, who wanted to rescue the father, got hit instead.

“The suspect, who was riding a Honda EX5, tried to hit his father, but was stopped by his brother who sustained injuries on his knees.

“Following the incident, the suspect’s father lodged a police report and the man was arrested at about 4.15pm yesterday,” he said.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had criminal record involving drug offences.

Ahmad Nasir said the man was being investigated under Section 427 and 506 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and criminal intimidation.
