KUALA LUMPUR: In a final message before being executed at dawn in Singapore, Malaysian Prabu Pathmanathan asked a friend to send a warning to everyone.

The message was a simple one: “Stay away from drugs.”

This was the message delivered by the friend to a Singaporean group which advocates the abolishment of the death penalty, We Believe in Second Chances”.

The message, along with the final pictures of the 31-year-old Prabu in prison, were shared by the group on their Facebook page.

As a matter of procedure, Singaporean prison authorities will ask relatives or friends of a death row inmate, if they can be found, to provide civilian clothing for a photo shoot before execution.

The pictures are then given to the family.

We Believe in Second Chances said Prabu’s friend and brother visited him before the execution.

The pictures uploaded by the group showed Prabu dressed in a blue T-shirt and white headwrap.

He appeared calm and collected, though a bit pensive in one photo, but in another, he had a wide smile on his face.

In other pictures, he can be seen holding Hindu scriptures.

Prabu was sentenced to death for drug trafficking, an offence which carries a mandatory death sentence in Singapore.
