NST compiles a list of the biggest country’s drug hauls in 2018.

  • Aug 21:
  • Police seized 506kg syabu and 26,000 ecstacy pills worth RM26.1 million in separates raids in six locations in Penang

  • July 21:
  • An auxiliary policeman attached to a government agency detained on suspicion of being a member of drug trafficking syndicate that smuggled 156kg syabu worth RM7.8 million into the country.

  • July 6:
  • Police bust drug smuggling and trafficking syndicate after confiscated 295 tea packets containing 306kg syabu worth RM15.3 million in three separate raids in Kuala Nerang, Kedah and Jelutong, Penang.

    In the operation, six syndicate members aged between 19 and 37, including a 30-year-old woman were arrested.

    Customs Department seized 1.187 tonne methamphethamine drug worth over RM71 million at a mini market in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

    The substance was smuggled into Malaysia from Yangon, Myanmar, through Port Klang, stored in a container and declared as food items, creating a smoke screen to conceal the illegal activity from the authorities.

    A total of 1,187 gold-coloured packages with each contained one kg of drugs.

    Five men aged between 22 and 48 were arrested to facilitate investigation.
