KEPALA BATAS: An unemployed man who bit his 20-day-old baby girl has been arrested.

The 34-year-old man, who lives in Bumbung Lima here, was said to have thrown the baby up into the air and once, hung his own daughter from a swing, all because the child was crying, all too frequently. He had also threatened to sell the baby.

He has also hit his other children.

As such, his wife, fearing for the safety of her children, lodged a police report.

The man was detained during Op Cantas at Kepala Batas Hospital here about 7.50pm yesterday. Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the baby had been taken to the hospital for a check-up but the doctor did not find any bruises.

“Initial investigations found that he frequently tossed the baby into the air and bit her on her head, nose and cheeks, leaving bite marks,” he said.

“He did it because the baby girl cried frequently. He even said he wanted to sell the baby.”

The man tested positive for methamphetamine, but did not have any previous convictions.

He has been remanded.
