IPOH: Two Nigerians were charged at the magistrate's court today with two counts of cheating a 56-year-old housewife to hand over RM16,000 to them last month.

Arinze Chibuisi, 24, and Ekene Malachy, 28, were alleged to have cheated Tan So Pin by telling her that there was a gift package for her but she needed to pay tax to the Customs Department to get the gift.

They allegedly cheated Tan to hand over RM4,000 via a CIMB account under the name of Yeoi Joo Phin at 2.15pm on Jan 15, and RM12,000 at 10.25am on Jan 16.

The offences was allegedly committed at CIMB Persiaran Silibin Utara, near Jelapang Industrial area here.

Arinze pleaded guilty, but Ekene pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Magistrate Nurul Hafizah Mohammad Pauzi set March 13 for remention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Qistina Qamarul Abrar prosecuted while the accused were represented by R. Raja Segaran.

Meanwhile, the accused, together with their two countrymen, Emmanuel Jideanr, 34, and Thankgod, in his 30s, were also charged with staying in the country without valid travel documents.

They offences were allegedly committed when they were arrested at Shafah Restaurant, Taman Paik Siong, Puchong, Selangor, at 12.30am on Jan 29.

All pleaded not guilty.

Nurul Hafizah fixed March 13 for mention.She did not grant bail.
