SANDAKAN: An Indonesian woman, who was beaten by her husband, died at the district hospital here Saturday.

According to district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin, the 38-year-old victim was trying to break up a fight between her husband and their eldest child.

"During the incident about 8pm on Saturday, the 40-year-old Indonesian husband was having argument with the child.

"When he was stopped by the wife, the husband lost temper," he said, adding that woman was kicked and bashed until she fell on the floor and lost consciousness.

Neighbours sent the woman to the Duchess of Kent Hospital around 9pm but she died while receiving treatment.

Police were alerted by hospital about the case after the woman died and despatched personnel to the victim's house at Kampung Sandak, Batu 10 here.

"When police arrived, the husband and children had run away.

"Following a tip-off, police managed to arrest the husband today at 6.30am at a house at a plantation at Jalan Settlement, Batu 12."

The man will be remanded and investigated under Section 302 of Penal Code for murder.
