SIBU: A boy ended up with severe burns on his thighs, following an argument between his mother and her boyfriend.
The incident occurred at a shophouse in Jalan Oya here last night, when the boy’s mother was engaged in a heated argument with her 50-year-old boyfriend.
During the argument, the man flew into a rage and lashed out by pouring hot water on the boy’s thighs. The man then fled the scene.
With the boy screaming in pain, the woman ran to a nearby restaurant to seek help to bring her son to the hospital.
Restaurant patrons contacted the Sibu Hospital, which sent an ambulance to the scene.
Checks later showed that the boy sustained severe burns to his thighs.
Sibu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zailanni Amit said police arrested the man from his house in town at 1.30pm, nine hours after a report was lodged against him.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence and exposing a child to injury.
