KUCHING: A teenager who ran an online gambling operation was among 27 people arrested in an on going state-wide crackdown by the police here.

The 15-year-old boy was held for allegedly providing credit reload service to online gamblers at the Sungai Moyan Commercial Centre in Batu Kawa near here last week.

State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said his men also seized 40 tablets mobile phones as well as cash amounting to RM6,730 during the week-long swoop which ended yesterday.

“A total of 25 gambling related raids were conducted last week,” he said of the operation which saw credit reload service providers and gamblers hauled up for investigations.

“Fourteen of the raids targetted 24-hour convenience stores and shops offering reload services,” said Dev in a statement.

A total of 10 raids were carried out on counters selling illegal lottery (4D), which resulted in the arrest of 10 people and seizure of RM2,184.

Several other gambling paraphernalia such mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationeries were also seized.

“A team from CID Miri conducted a raid at a cock-fighting pit at Kampung Lusut Jaya, Miri yesterday.

“The raid resulted in the arrest of seven people and seizure several live and dead rosters,” he said.
