KUALA LUMPUR: A prosecution witness told the High Court today said army pathologist Dr R. Kunaseegaran was the mastermind behind the murder of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais two years ago.

Assistant Superintendent Wan Abdullah Wan Said, who was the main investigation officer of the case, said Dr Kunaseegaran had orchestrated the murder but managed to hide his presence during the entire 'process'.

“Even though he (Dr Kunaseegaran) was not at the crime scene during the incident, he could still contact the other accused to plan the murder.

“Based on my investigation, Dr Kunaseegaran was angry with Morias as the latter had charged him with multiple graft cases in Shah Alam Sessions Court.

“I also cannot find any motive for the other accused some of whom had come all the way from Kedah to kill Morais,” he said.

Wan Abdullah was testifying at the trial of five men - R. Dinishwaran, 23; A. Thinesh Kumar, 22; M. Vishwanath, 25; S. Nimalan, 22; and S. Ravichandran, 45 - who are jointly charged with murdering Morais, 55, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, while Morais was on his way from Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

They face the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Dr. Kunaseegaran, 54, is charged with abetting in the murder of Morais.

Wan Abdullah said Dr Kunaseegaran and Ravichandran were close friends and Dr Kunaseegaran always shared his problems with Ravichandran.

“Thus my theory is Dr Kunaseegaran had planned to assassinate Morais with Ravichandran, and he gave his instructions orally,” he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin is prosecuting while the accused are represented by counsel M. Manoharan, V. Rajehgopal and G. Sivakumar.

The prosecution closed its case today.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah fixed Oct 25 for submissions.
