SANDAKAN: A man playing sepak takraw was stabbed to death by his enraged Indonesian neighbour when the ball hit the gate of his house in Kampung Sundang Laut, Batu Sapi yesterday.

The victim, a local in his forties, was playing sepak takraw with his friends at a court located behind the Indonesian man’s house at 5pm.

During the game, the sepak takraw ball hit the house’s gate – an event which had occurred several times previously – angering the homeowner.

“As the victim went to collect the ball, he was confronted by the suspect. Following a heated argument, the suspect took out a ‘Rambo’ knife and stabbed the victim.

“The victim’s friends overpowered the suspect and handed him over to the police, along with the weapon.

“The victim, however, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the Duchess of Kent district hospital,” said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Mohd Hamin, adding that the 40-year-old foreigner has been detained.

“We are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code (for murder),” he said.
