SANDAKAN: A woman was found dead in a lodging room at Jalan Dua here, today.
The victim, in her 20s, was believed to have been smothered to death with pillow. No other injuries were found on her body.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said according to records at the lodging house, the victim checked-in into the room at about 5am.
“She took the key from the caretaker and entered the room alone.
“Later in the morning, the caretaker, in her 70s, found the room door left ajar. She went in to check and found the victim’s lifeless body on the bed,” he said.
Mohd Azhar said police had detained the caretaker to facilitate with investigation.
“We did not find any stab wounds but we do not rule out foul play. Police are investigating whether the victim was murdered,” he said.
