KOTA BARU: Police have arrested a man for possessing an air pistol and 30 pellets after a 12km car chase in Jeli on Wednesday.

Kelantan deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Din Ahmad said the man, in the 4am incident in Batu Melintang, had made a sudden U-turn after seeing a police road-block nearby.

A police team on duty, he said saw it and gave chase.

"The team stopped him after a 12km chase but found nothing on him. However, upon searching the car, they found a small bag containing the air gun and pellets," he said.

Din said the 24-year-old man later told police that he had bought the gun for RM500 and was planning to sell it to a client in Seremban.

"We are still investigating whether he had done this before or it was his first time," he said.

Din added that the man could be in deeper trouble after checks revealed that the Proton Wira he used turned out to be a stolen vehicle, reported missing in February.

In an unrelated case, Din said police have detained a man on Wednesday to assist in an investigation into an armed attack against a factory worker in Pasir Putih.

He said the victim, who arrived from Seremban at the Pasir Putih bus terminal at about 4.15am, was attacked by two men on a motorcycle. The pillion rider, without warning had slashed him, seriously injuring the victim's left hand.

"The victim did not know the attacker but recognised the rider who is his co-worker at a factory in Seremban and also his housemate." he said.
