High-speed electric skateboard

THE Raptor 2 claims to be the most powerful direct drive electric skateboard in the world. You will be able to move ahead at a top speed of 28mph with a range that can cover 40km on a single charge.

You can enjoy the Raptor 2 even when facing challenging uphill terrain that used to be a torture on your calf muscles and the urban commuting experience will never be the same again. You will benefit from the perks of getting around at speed sans the bulk or energy exertion. Not only that, the Raptor 2 also lets you skip traffic congestion as you utilise the convenience of bicycle paths and shortcuts.

The kind of technology packed into the Raptor 2 include interchangeable 360Wh batteries that can deliver an increased level of torque output, as well as adjustable power levels for a customised ride experience. The powerful direct drive system will be equipped with traction control to offer superior handling and responsiveness at such high speed.

The Raptor 2 tips the scales at 9kg, a lot heavier than a traditional skateboard due to its batteries, with a charging time of up to 2.5 hours. The replaceable battery itself can last for more than 1,000 charges, while the deck material is made from carbon fibre and maple composite with alloy handles. https://raptor2.enertionboards.com

HD 360° camera

THE Giroptic iO is a compact, portable camera attachment that is compatible with either the iPhone or iPad, allowing users to capture, share and broadcast their live stream experiences. While this is nothing new in essence, the device goes one up by enabling you to do so in fully immersive 360° images.

This is made possible thanks to the integrated, patented real-time stitching technology, as well as the reliable direct smartphone connectivity. The end result? An unrivalled capture-to-playback experience with minimum lag, if any. The Giroptic iO is connected via the Lightning port, where it works with a companion app that has basic, yet effective sharing tools. This allows users to capture and post 360° images and videos natively to compatible social platforms such as Facebook and YouTube. You can also opt to broadcast live through YouTube’s live streaming platform.

Best of all, the Giroptic iO does not make your iPhone look as though it is out of place, as it comes in a relatively discreet form factor that remains diminutive even when connected. Priced at US$249 (RM1,117) those interested can place a pre-order. www.giroptic.com

Drone with dual-screen controller

XDYNAMICS announced that its latest smart drone, the Evolve, will come with a dual-screen controller that supposedly enhances the way you fly the drone. Ready to make its debut at CES in Las Vegas this month, the drone boasts a carbon fibre monocoque chassis that will lend strength to its structural stability as well as enjoy improved flight dynamics.

The dual-screen remote control will be the basis of a smart pilot system. The 7-inch screen acts as a viewfinder, while the 5-inch screen is a touch-based control panel.

The technological marvel does not end there as there is a 64-bit quad-core processor that runs proceedings from within the dual-screen controller itself, accompanied by a dedicated GPU, has 4GB of RAM and Android as the operating system of choice.

Other innards that the dual-screen controller packs include a GPS module, Inertial Measurement Unit sensors, a microSD memory card slot, a USB port and a micro HDMI-out port that lets you hook up other peripherals such as FPV (First Person View) goggles and VR (Virtual Reality) headsets if required. From the remote controller, you can sort and organise all the photos and videos taken without having to upload them to a computer beforehand, while an alert centre lets you know of the Evolve’s status, while letting you take hold of various flight modes, including one that will let it snap selfies as the Evolve follows you around.

It is able to broadcast live view performances at Full HD resolution at 60fps and will have a 4K camera with a Sony CMOS sensor for some great looking stills that will surely serve you well into the future. There is no word on pricing for the XDynamics Evolve yet but it will hit the market some time this year. www.xdynamics.com

More than just a pen

Q-SEE has come up with QPen, a compact DVR pen that is specially designed for the busy professional or student on the move. It can capture 4MP still images for reference later on without anyone else in the room knowing, as well as doubling up as a video recorder as you collect the happenings in the visual vicinity at 720p resolution. Surely that is more than adequate for the average imaginary espionage assignment!

All the photos and videos captured will be stored within its internal 16GB memory, which translates to nearly 14,000 photos or 1.5 hours of non-stop video. To transfer all the captured stuff, all that you need to do is open the QPen, plug in the USB side into a Windows or Apple-based computer and you’re good to go. Of course, the whole point of the QPen is to have it work as a pen as well when the need arises.

Priced at US$99, each purchase comes with three ink refills. www.q-see.com
