SEREMBAN: A wheelchair-bound woman and her two sons were charged in the magistrate and Sessions' courts today for two offences of causing grievous hurt and exploiting their Indonesian maid.

K. Kaliamah, 49, S. Shashikumar, 25 and S. Muhesh Kumar, 20, however pleaded not guilty for allegedly causing injuries to Koiriyah, 33, at a house in Taman Jimah Jaya, Port Dickson between Oct and Dec this year, after the charge was read by the court interpreter before magistrate Siti Khairiah Abdul Razak.

For the offence, they were charged under Section 323 of the Penal code which carries a maximum jail term of up to a year, or a RM2,000 fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor A. Ashwini prosecuted while the accused were represented by M. Sivam.

Later, Kaliamah and Muhesh were also charged at the Sessions Court here under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) at the Sessions Court here, related to Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years or a fine, or both.

For the offence, both accused pleaded not guilty to exploiting Koiriyah in the form of forced labour, after the charge was read before Judge Fathiyah Idris.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at the same time and location.

Fathiyah set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and slotted Jan 3 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Hafizah Abdullah prosecuted and both accused were represented by the same lawyer.
