PUTRAJAYA: The Opposition is crying foul over the Election Commission (EC)’s proposal even before due process has taken place for the redelineation exercise of the Peninsula, said Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Noh said this in response to DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang's blog post stating that Pakatan Harapan will have to consider the option of snap polls in Selangor as the EC’s proposal has “mangled and butchered the map of Selangor.”

Lim said the redelineation exercise will ensure that BN Selangor would regain the state, as it only benefits Umno.

The post has since been unavailable, with the website going offline in the afternoon.

“They (the DAP) wanted to hold a snap poll in Penang when the Chief Minister reached his own conclusion that he was going to be charged in court for corruption, even before any decision was made,” said Noh.

“The Opposition also forced a by-election in Kajang to elect a new Menteri Besar in Selangor because they did not see the incumbent Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as fit to hold the position.

“Now they want to do a snap poll in Selangor because they are unhappy with the redelineation and do not want to follow the EC’s law, which does stipulate an objection process for the exercise,” he told reporters after presenting appointment letters to 12 Tribunal for Home Buyer and Strata Management (TPPS) presidents here today.

Noh said even he was unhappy with the redelineation exercise in Selangor, especially for Ampang parliament as well as the Bukit Antarabangsa and Lembah Jaya state assembly seats, which would no longer be available for Umno to stand in come the 14th General Election.

Unlike the Opposition, which wants to drag matters out, he said Umno was not raising a great hue and cry over the issue.

He added that the Opposition’s misuse of power and position at the expense of the people clearly exhibits its true colours in running the state.

Separately, it was reported that Azmin has stressed that there is no need for any snap poll in the state, as the administration wants to fulfil the mandate given to it by the people.
