GEORGE TOWN : A total of four prosecution witnesses were called in to testify in the trial of Tanjong member of parliament Ng Wei Aik's sedition suit at the Sessions Court here, today.

Ng was charged under the Sedition Act for an article he wrote titled ‘Reformasi bermula lagi’ (Reformation re-emerges) in a Chinese daily early last year.

The four witnesses were; Special Affairs Department (Jasa) officer Ang Chor Keong, Chinese daily Kwong Wah Yit Poh news editor Tee Hor Yan, Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district police headquarters political officer Assistant Superintendent Chong Chey Yean and SPU Special Branch investigating officer Sangkar Segaran.

Ang, cross examined by counsel Gobind Singh Deo, had lodged a police report on the article on Feb 16 last year, five days after it was published in Kwong Wah Yit Poh.

Ang was the Penang MCA deputy youth chief when the report was lodged.

Gobind said Ang's report was 'politically motivated' and has a hidden agenda to topple his client, Ng, a claim which Ang denied.

Ng claimed trial to the charge under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

If found guilty, he faces a maximum fine of RM5,000, three years' jail or both.

Judge Ibrahim Osman fixed Apr 28 for continuation of trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Lim Cheah Yit apperared for the prosecution.
