GEORGE TOWN : A baby girl was found on the doorstep of a home next to a mosque in Teluk Kumbar early today.

The baby, believed to be a day old with the umbilical cord still attached, was found by Masrol Mohamed Yusoff at Kampung Masjid Teluk Kumbar in Bayan Lepas.

Masrol found the baby wrapped in a brown sweater at his doorstep at 3am.

The baby was taken to Penang Hospital for checkup.

A police spokesman said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposure and abandonment of a child under 12-years-old.
