NIBONG TEBAL: A mini syabu laboratory in-the-making was raided by police here in Taman Panchong Mutiara on Thursday.

State Narcotics Department chief Superintendent Guan Beng Kang said police arrested a couple, aged 51 and 28, after they found various drugs, including methamphetamine oil and ecstasy pills, in their home.

The drugs, weighing in at more than five kilogrammes is worth around RM200,000.

"Police raided their home at 6pm after receiving a public tip-off.

"When police arrived at the rented house, the couple were caught red handed and items related to the process of making syabu were confiscated, "he told reporters today, adding that a Mercedes-Benz car was also seized from the crime scene.

Guan said the main suspect sells fish at one of the markets in the Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) district while his wife, a Vietnam national, is unemployed.

The couple also have a two-year old son.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamines and the man has a previous criminal record.

The case has been classified under Section 39B and Section 15 (1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If found guilty, both husband and wife will face a mandatory death penalty.
