GEORGE TOWN: A group of thieves targeting petrol stations in Butterworth over the past year were arrested recently.

Besides attacking petrol stations after midnight, the four men targeted donation boxes at mosques during the day.

Seberang Prai Utara police chief ACP Azmi Adam said the mastermind of the group was arrested on Feb 24, leading to the arrests of three others.

“They were involved in break-ins at five petrol stations in Tasek Gelugor.

“During the day, they would go into mosques and steal donation boxes.

“And all of them tested positive for drugs,” he said.

Azmi said the groups’ motorcycles and loot were seized from an unidentified location in Butterworth recently.
