RANAU: A weak tremor measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale has caused roof of a religious school here to collapse.

District fire and rescue chief Jimmy Lagon said the library roof of SMKA Mohamad Ali collapsed five minutes after the earthquake occurred at 10.54am.

“There were no students and teachers in the library at the time of the incident. As of now, class is as usual,” he said when contacted.

“The library is now closed for firefighters to do assessment,” Jimmy added.

On June 5, a moderate quake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Sabah. Ranau is the worst affected area, where 18 mountain climbers were killed on that day.

The earthquake followed by over 70 aftershocks and mudslides which had caused thousands of villagers to evacuate their homes.
