GEORGE TOWN: UNIVERSITI Sains Malaysia’s International Gala Night was a most memorable event as the audience was taken on a tour around the world in a few hours.

Aptly themed “The Colours of The World”, it featured beautiful performances by students of 10 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Iraq, Russia, Indonesia, China, Thailand and India.

USM’s cultural performance team Adikarma wowed the audience with a dance which included elements from the country’s various cultures.

It was followed by a traditional dance by students from India. The Chinese students took the stage with a Chinese yoyo performance.

The mood in the hall turned sentimental when the Russians sang a sad number. The Japanese then upped the tempo with an energetic and unique dance.

The play, Malin Kundang or Si Tanggang, staged by the Indonesians had a strong impact on the audience.

The hall was full of good cheer when students from Thailand performed Muay Thai.

Many were seen recording the performances with their mobile phones.
