PUTRAJAYA: Several unregistered traders and restaurant operators will be dragged to court this week for imposing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on customers, said Customs Department GST Director Datuk Subrmaniam Tholasy.

He said the department was satisfied with some of the 13 investigation papers opened since GST was implemented on April 1, and will submit papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for approval.

"We have found that some of the papers have contained enough evidence for legal action," he told a press conference at the Finance Ministry building, here, this afternoon.

Also present was Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad.

Subromaniam said the offenders faced a RM30,000 fine or two years prison, or both, including an additional penalty amounting to double the amount of GST that was collected.
