JOHOR BARU: Police released two of the seven men held in custody, in connection with the Estonia model murder case.

The two who had their statements recorded and released on July 8, Johor police contingent said in a statement today.

It is believed the men released on police bail today, are the boatmen.

The Estonian freelance model Regina Soosalu, in her 20s, was found dead facing down on the beach at Pulau Rawa on July 1, the same day she arrived at the island resort in Mersing.

Initially police assumed she drowned, but bruises on her neck were similar to strangulation, which prompted them to reclassify the case from sudden death to murder, on July 9.

Police arrested seven men aged between 25 and 35, including her boyfriend, whose family owns the resort.

“The public and media were asked not to speculate and spread rumours.

“Investigations are underway. Police are yet to rule out any possibility. We are now awaiting full post-mortem and DNA reports,” the statement read.
