PETALING JAYA: Third time’s the charm for 18-year-old Yashan Raj from SMK Tengku Idris Shah, Kapar, Klang, who won the Boys category for the BHPetrol Orange Run 2015 held this morning.

The school athlete in long-distance track events said he finished 6th and second place in the same category in 2013 and last year, respectively.

“I stepped up my training and my hard work had finally paid off. It is important to keep high discipline and always believe that we can achieve once we set our eyes on something.

My parents also support me in sports,” he said.

The event was organised by Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police, Petaling Jaya City Council, e-curve and Affin Bank Bhd.

Boustead Holding Bhd deputy chairman and group managing director Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin flagged off the 12km charity run at the Curve Mutiara Damansara at about 7am.

The route comprised of main areas of the Mutiara Damansara Commercial Centre.

A total of RM30,000 was raised through the entry fee of RM5 collected from the 3,000 participants and matching fund from Boustead.

Lodin said apart from encouraging healthy lifestyle and promote friendship among participants, the event, which is in its 10th year was aimed at raising funds for the needy.

“It is also a good platform to introduce our brand to the public while carrying out our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. RM10,000 is channelled to each of the selected non-governmental organisations (NGO),” he said.

They are National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom), Damai Disabled Persons Association Malaysia and Pusat Kanak-kanak Spastik Ipoh (Spastic Children’s Day Care Centre Ipoh).

The first, second and third winners for each category received cash prizes of RM1,000, RM700, and RM500. The top three winners also received BHP petrol vouchers worth RM500, RM300, and RM250 (in the same order).
