SHAH ALAM: RM23.6 million has been distributed to almost 33,000 poor families by Selangor Zakat so far since the first day of Ramadan.

Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Adzib Mohd Isa announced the distribution during an Iftar event organised by the Selangor Zakat here.

"Some 32,843 poor families have benefited from zakat distribution by Selangor Zakat so far since the first day of Ramadan this year," he said.

About 62 companies also paid their business tithe to Selangor Zakat worth RM2,2262,597.88.

"Advance Air Traffic System Sdn Bhd paid the biggest amount RM353,782.80, followed by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd who paid RM298,045.35 and Lembaga Perumahan Selangor Sdn Bhd (LPHS) paid RM174,946.90," said Adzib.

"MAA Takaful Berhad and MIDF Property Berhad each pay RM150,000 while Pasaraya Borong Sakan Sdn Bhd paid RM119,899.38. YBK Usahasama Sdn Bhd, Lebar Daun Development Sdn Bhd snd UNITAR International University each pay their business zakat RM100,000.

On that same evening RM282,665 worth of zakat was also distributed to seven indiduals with various needs such as to help them with their expensive medical cost, to pursue their tertiary education, and to help them repair their house.
