GEORGE TOWN: The State Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized more the 80,000 units of illegal DVDs worth about RM500,000 at two premises in Komtar today.

In the 5pm raid, the ministry discovered the DVDs packed in boxes and plastics in the premises.

It was believed that the two premises stored the supply for the illegal business in the shopping complex and around Penang.

The ministry spokesman said the raid was conducted after two weeks of investigations.

"There was no arrest been made but we will investigate more to find the owner of the premises and the DVDs," he said.

The case is being investigated under Copyright Act 1987 which carries a fine of between RM2,000 and RM20,000 for each illegal copies or a jail term of up to five years or both upon conviction.
