SEBERANG JAYA: PKR's Youth and Wanita wings are demanding that the post of the Penang Islamic Religious Council president be handed over to the party.

The post is currently held by the sole Pas representative in the state, Datuk Salleh Man.

State PKR Youth chief Asrol Sani Abdul Razak said since the state government announced recently that Pas was no longer in the Pakatan Harapan state government, it was only logic that the post no longer be held by the Islamist party.

"Looking at the current political scenario, we feel that it is not right for Pas to continue to hold on to the post.

"As such, we are demanding that the post be given to PKR instead, being the second biggest party in the state government," he told a specially-called press conference here this morning.

The current Penang Islamic Religious Council presidency expires at the end of this year.

Asrol Sani said they had obtained the consent from the party's TOP leadership.
