GEORGE TOWN: GURNEY Plaza celebrated diversity in conjunction with Merdeka Day through dance performances in an event called We Dance For Peace and Unity recently.

Hundreds of people gathered at the mall’’s main atrium to watch performances which featured Penang dancers such as including Aida Redza, Liu Yong Sean, Hasmizan Abdul Hamid, Tze Shen and Karuna Tiara.

It also featured various traditional performances such as Mongolian Chinese dance, Malay Randai and Indian Mudras.

Contemporary dances such as street jazz and kungfu hip hop also attracted hordes of shoppers who applauded and cheered at their carefully choreographed steps.

Many young people in the audience could not resist the upbeat music and began following the dancers’ moves.

The performances were made more lively when the dancers had actively interacted with the audiences and invited to dance with them on stage.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of roses to the audience by performers.

Penang Arts Link administrator and organiser Aida Redza said the event was aimed at promoting cultural dances and a workshop was carried out for people to learn the moves.

“We introduced the performers’ modern and traditional dance steps in our effort to promote peace and unity.”
