GEORGE TOWN: A peaceful gathering calling for the repeal of the Sedition Act 1948 this evening turned chaotic after members of several Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs) turned up at the gathering and forced them to leave.
In the 6pm incident, some 20 members of Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH) were driven out by some 30 Gabungan NGO Islam Pulau Pinang (GNGOIPP) members at the Speaker's Square at Padang Kota Lama here.
GHAH spokesman Ong Jing Cheang, who had just started his speech, was forced to leave the place by the group.
The chaos compelled the police to intervene and control the situation.
