KOTA KINABALU: POLICE have not received any report on allegations of corruption involving security personnel, leading to security breaches in the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were ready to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the matter.

"MACC has announced it will place its officers in Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) and I welcome their move to establish its presence in Esscom and Esszone.

"At present there have been no reports on any wrongdoing but I don't want to deny it.

"If there is any wrongdoing we will give our fullest cooperation."

Khalid was speaking to reporters after attending a meeting about the restructuring of Esscom operational command at the Sabah police headquarters here yesterday.

Khalid said investigations would be conducted if there were any reports of senior officers involved in possible wrongdoings.

He said as part of a move to increase integrity among police personnel, new recruits joining the force will have to undergo a psychometric test.

Khalid said the implementation of the test will take place with immediate effect, adding that it will see vetting of new recruits who may have a tendency towards corruption.

On the restructuring of Esscom command, Khalid announced that the armed forces would take over operational command beginning July 1 for 18 months.

"This command will then be placed under police and will continue on a rotation basis.

"The officer would be known as the Esscom Commander and will have the power to order in terms of operation.

"I have instructed my men and police chiefs at Esszone to give their cooperation."

Meanwhile, Khalid said that kidnap victim Yang Zai Lin, a fish farm manager abducted by five gunmen, is safe.

He said police were doing everything necessary to secure his release.

The Chinese national was kidnapped from his workplace on Pulau Baik off Silam, Lahad Datu on May 6.
