GEORGE TOWN: A 'molotov cocktail' was hurled into the compound of the residence of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng late last night.

The bomb was thrown into the parking area of the residence in Jalan Pinhorn, apparently by a motorcyclist, at 11.45pm.

At that time, the security guard was at the back portion of the house.

Lim and his family were at the Esplanade grounds to attend the Merdeka eve celebration at the time of the incident.

Forensic examination showed that a bottle contained kerosene had exploded and caused a fire, but no one was injured and there was no damage to property.

Police is investigating the case under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire.
