GEORGE TOWN: Police detained two men after they were found with about two kilogrammes ganja in a car in Jalan Gurdwara here last night.

Northeast District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the drug, wrapped in a box with gift wrappers, was seized from the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, after a high speed chase at about 10.45pm.

He said checks showed the driver of the car had five past drug-related offences while his accomplice had none.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
