BALING: MALAYSIA has not drawn flak for arresting foreign nationals involved with international terrorist activities in the country.

Instead, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia had been praised for taking decisive action to protect the safety of its people and the world.

He said this after a working visit to the district police headquarters here yesterday.

He said Malaysia would continue to clamp down on militant activities in the country.

"We do not want to be perceived internationally as a militant hub.

"We want to entirely eradicate militant activities. No extremism of any sort will be tolerated."

"We are working with Asianpol and Interpol to arrest these militants and curb their activities.

"Jihad missions are strictly disallowed and we are not making any compromises on this."

Zahid said the crime index in the Baling district was down by 8.7 per cent last year, adding that as of the end of last month, it was down by another 20 per cent, thanks to activities linked to Op Cantas.

"We are pleased with the reduction in crime.

"Although it is not possible to eliminate crime 100 per cent because there were many factors involved, but we are striving for it," said Zahid.
