ALOR STAR: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak today reminded the Kedah party leaders to study the push and pull factors which led to Barisan Nasional (BN) success in wresting the state from Pakatan Rakyat in the 13th General Election two years ago.
At the same time, Najib who is also Prime Minister, reminded Umno leaders in the state to study and learn from mistakes, which saw BN lost Kedah for the first time in the 2008 general election.
"It is imperative for Kedah Umno to fully understand what made Kedahans swing back to BN in the previous general election, so that we could learn the lesson from our costly lost of the state in 2008 and the failure of Pakatan state government which led their lost in 2013.
"We need to identify the seats which we won with marginal and slim majority and work hard to retain the seats and the state government in the next general election," Najib said in his speech when opening 2015 Kedah Umno convention at TH Hotel and Convention Centre here today.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also state Umno liaison committee chairman, and his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, secretary Datuk Othman Aziz, treasurer Datuk Seri Abd Azeez Abd Rahim and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Najib later reminded the party leaders to be wary of 'jemuan' (troublemakers) who were out to spread lies to achieve their own agenda at all cost, even by risking the party's future.
