GEORGE TOWN: VISITORS to Queensbay Mall in Bayan Baru here had more than shopping bargains when they patronised the popular shopping complex recently.

Besides shopping, patrons were treated to an international food spread at the Queens Street Dining International Festival 2014.

Held at the mall’s third floor food arcade, shoppers got a chance to sample a variety of cuisine and snacks from countries, such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hungary, Mexico, Thailand, France and China.

Some 12 eateries at the food arcade took part in the two-day event.

Besides savouring the international food items, shoppers were encouraged to take part in several activities during the festival.

They included a hopscotch challenge, sushi tossing competition, a mini-car race and a mini-food game, which requried participants to feed one another with their eyes closed.

Winners of the various competitions stood a chance to take home attractive prizes, worth more than RM5,000.

There were also stage performances including Japanese traditional dances, a Mexican strolling band and Korean modern dances, as well as a Kids International Costumes competition with the winners walking away with prizes totalling RM1,600.

A stamp-based loyalty programme called the Queens Street Dining Passport was launched at the event. The passport is a frequent foodie loyalty programme to reward diners who patronise the Queens Street between September and December this year.

Queens Street Dining was introduced last year and it offers all-day casual dining experience with international flavours.

The food arcade is a popular hangout for family and friends at the Queensbay Mall.

Regular patrons also included executives from the nearby factories and business centres.
