SEREMBAN: Police will not change its stand to not take sides in the issue of children involved in the custody battles between Muslim and non-Muslim parents.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the force will not back down from its suggestion that the children be placed in welfare homes until the issues resolved despite drawing flak from all quarters.

" Well what can I do if they want to lambast me but whatever I said remains and that is our stand.

"We are now sandwiched between two legal system...so which side should we serve now?

"There are two legal systems which are empowered by the constitution and we choose to stay in the middle so lets see...," said Khalid after watching a friendly football match between Malaysia police and its counterpart from Singapore at the Paroi Youth and Sports Complex here today.
