KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Media Prima Berhad has forged an understanding to adapt novels into telemovies or movies.

DBP director-general Datuk Dr Awang Sariyan said the collaboration would enable more literary works to be adapted into screenplay and encourage young people to read novels.

He said the first literary work to be adapted into a telemovie or movie would be a novel entitled 'Seorang tua di kaki gunung' (an old man at the foothill) authored by Azizi Abdullah.

"I hope we can appoint the screenwriter in two months' time and air the drama and movie by year-end," he told reporters after signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of the DAP here today.

Media Prima's Television Networks CEO Ahmad Izham Omar, who represented Media Prima at the MoU, said Media Prima and the DBP would explore ways to turn more literary works into telemovies or movies through seminars. -- BERNAMA
