PUTRAJAYA: Kelab Putera 1Malaysia’s (KP1M) humanitarian mission to Gaza will meet security requirements like bullet proof vests and safety helmets, said chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

He said the security was upped following an incident where Bernama TV cameraman Noramfaizul Mohd Nor died in an ambush during KP1M’s humanitarian mission to Somalia in 2011.

Azeez said efforts were underway to collect supplies for the mission which is expected to leave for Gaza in two weeks if Egypt opens its Rafah border crossing into Gaza.

In Nibong Tebal, Penang Umno Youth launched its Gaza Solidarity Fund to aid the people of Gaza.

Its chief, Rafizal Abdul Rahim, said the collecting of donations would be held at three breaking-of-fast events that would be organised by the Penang Umno Youth in Tasek Gelugor, Balik Pulau and Permatang Pauh. They aim to collect RM5,000.
