SUBANG JAYA: AmBank Group recently spread Deepavali cheer to 140 underprivileged children, senior citizens and single mothers from Pusat Jagaan Rumah Kebajikan Rita, Klang, by dishing out festive goodies.

AmBank (M) Bhd Financial Solution executive vice-president Ganesh Kumar Nadarajah also presented AmBank Group’s signature camel coin box to the recipients.

He said the programme is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility effort, in line with its concept of striving to become a responsible corporate player.

“AmBank Group Club members have always contributed their time and effort to help those in need.

“We hope that our projects create more awareness on the importance of caring for the less fortunate,” said Ganesh.

P. Tanakhodi, 51, who suffers from Down’s Syndrome, said she was abandoned by her family members years ago.

“I am glad there are still people who care for me. My only wish is to be able to celebrate Deepavali with my family and friends again,” she said.

G. Dashini, an orphan, was excited to receive a dress of her favourite colour for Deepavali.

“I have everything matching in pink this year,” said the 9-year-old.

N. Anthony Samy, 54, who is wheelchair-bound, said he only wished to remain in good health.

“I just want to stay healthy and be happy for years to come. There is nothing more to ask from God,” he said. By Seri Nor Nadiah Koris
