KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem today received the Asia HRD Awards 2014 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to people development.

Adenan accepted the award from Bahrain's former Minister of Works, Fahmi Ali Al Jowder, who is also a member of the Asia HRD Awards 2014 Committee, at a ceremony in his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here.

According to the statement distributed to the press after the ceremony, the award is conferred to individuals who have made a significant contribution to people development.

It also said that recipients were individuals, who had pioneered selflessly to promote the cause of learning initiatives that had impacted the entire community in a significant way.

The award was conferred to Adenan, who had made an extraordinary contribution to people development and had given strength and support to many professionals and leaders, said the statement.

"The outstanding work that Adenan has done will continue to inspire many to emulate his good action," it said.

The past recipients were former president of the Philippines, Fidel V.Ramos, who is the current chairman of the Asia HRD Congress Awards Committee 2014, United Arab Emirates Minister of International Cooperation and Development Sheikha Lubna Khalid Al Qasimi, Sarawak head of state Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, Fahmi Ali himself, group chief executive officer of Air Asia Berhad Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes and founder and chairman of HCL Technologies and Shiv Nadar Foundation, India Shri Shiv Nadar.

Also present at the ceremony was founder of the Asia HRD Awards Datuk R.Palan. -- BERNAMA
