PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism Ministry had taken action against five businesses for holding 'Pre-Goods and Services Tax (GST)' sales from January to date.

Its minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said the ministry’s enforcers had found that the businesses had mislead consumers into buying items on sale in fear of price hikes when the GST takes effect.

He said the ministry 'War Room' operations centre to receive complaints related to price-hikes and profiteering after April 1.

Hasan also reminded the public to refrain from engaging in 'Panic Buying' ahead of the implementation.

“This (Panic Buying) should not happen because (prices) of many items on sale would not be affected by GST,”

“We will continue to take action against any errant traders who still used GST as a reason to hold the sales,” he told a press conference after launching the ministry’s Business Ethics Code, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here, this afternoon.
