JOHOR BARU: To evade detection, 22 illegal migrants, including a 6-year-old girl, crammed themselves inside two cars en route to a jetty in Sungai Rengit.

Their attempts were shortlived when their vehicles were stopped by Immigration officers in a petrol station in Desa Jaya, Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi, here.

State Immigration enforcement chief Masri Adul said his officers had been tailing the two cars from a kongsi in Desa Tebrau.

“The two drivers picking up the suspects had used the kongsi as a transit point.”

The drivers fled when the raiding team ambushed the two vehicles at the petrol station.

The case is being investigated under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigrations Act 1959/1963. The suspects have been detained to facilitate investigations.
